From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in her beloved Rosemary Beach series, which continues the story of Mase and Reese from When I’m Gone.
The future is bright for Reese Ellis. She has Mase Colt-Manning, the man of her dreams, and a family she didn’t know existed until her long-lost father arrived on her doorstep in Rosemary Beach. After growing up with a cruel mother and abusive stepfather, Reese is eager to get to know the caring and charming man who wants to be a part of her life. Everything is finally falling into place.
While Reese is visiting her new family in Chicago, Mase spends time with his “cousin,” Aida, who has worshipped him since childhood. Though they’re unrelated by blood, Mase and Aida have been raised to think of each other as family. But when Reese returns, she can tell something isn’t quite right with Aida, who clearly resents Reese and excels at manipulative little games. And though Mase is unsuspecting, Reese knows Aida doesn’t love him like a cousin should…

Thank goodness I did not have to wait long AFTER finally reading When You’re Gone (Rosemary Beach #11) when we were introduced to Mase Colt Manning and Reese Ellis. I was feeling all warm and tingly by their connection and got hooked into their background and their story that I needed more especially the cliffhanger ending we were left with.
Reece is still fighting her demons but with the help of the love of her life, Mase it was getting easier. She had made some amazing progress and is ready to explore/experience more opportunities. She is a strong and determined woman out to prove she can overcome and accomplish things she has missed out on. She wants to prove her independence and with any new challenges there were obstacles that she had to face.
Whenever, wherever there was anything that entailed Reece, there was a guarantee that Mase was always there and/or knew something was up. He had fallen HARD for her and knew how to read her. This beautiful man constantly won my heart over and over again. Although there were times he was a bit too much but the reasoning behind any of his actions had made sense. I mean what is not to love a hot, overprotected cowboy who truly loves his dear family (& of course Reece) FIERCELY, and would do anything to see them happy?
“I can swear to you that you will always be it for me. No one fits me like you. No one makes me feel whole. No one else ever will.”
As with any love that grows deeper, Mase and Reece began encountering obstacles in their relationship that will test them to the fullest with an ugly past that they will continue to face together, new people butting in and/or eyeing their attention..the getting the list goes on and on.
This book starts off where (obviously) book one leaves off, however, the first few pages felt rushed on something that needed just a little more insight that it had slightly thrown me off a bit. Although, as the story progressed it got more into what was going on and figuring out where the connections were at making the read intense, intriguing, and the need to know more not just about the main characters but the supporting characters as well.
The story of Mase and Reece continues to break and melt my heart I have to quickly note that the ending of the book kinda of threw me off. A lot of questions were answered but It felt like a cliffhanger of sorts. I am hoping that we get more of them in the future.
If you have fallen for the characters’ stories from the Rosemary Beach series this one definitely did not fall short and was filled with even more to the collection.

GOOSEBUMPS. I had them all over once I read the very last word of this book. Abbi Glines just writes everything that can rock and shatter your world, then somehow put all the pieces back together again. I was blown out of my freaking wits. It was insane! The twists were just so unexpected. And that one chapter near the end? I did not see that coming. At all. You will definitely know which one I’m talking about when you read this—it was a solid and outstanding chapter from the book. But with everything that’s been going on though, it was like waiting for the shoe to drop. Multiplied by ten. So much was happening in all angles that it would be hard for you to keep up if you weren’t as engrossed in the book, which is close to impossible, by the way.
Mase & Reese were just hard not to love. I fell deep for both of them—take note on the both part—ever since When I’m Gone. I honestly like that better than this one though. I think I could’ve lived with that book alone for Mase & Reese, but then again, that’s just my opinion. And I don’t think I’d know anybody who’s read When I’m Gone that didn’t want more, more and more of Mase Colt Manning. I mean, Jesus Christ. Have you met the man? Have you heard him talk? Everything coming out of that man’s mouth is magic. It is so darn impossible not to fall head over heels for him. Just plain impossible. It was like death by Mase’s words. His words alone can give you butterflies in your stomach, make you hot and squirm, and melt you into freaking goo.
In When You’re Back, everything in Mase & Reese’s relationship is tested—down to the very core of it: trust. Love was never gone. As was told here, once you find that one person for you, you love hard. And that just never goes away, which was perfectly the case for this Rosemary Beach series couple.
And please, please let there be a book or two for Captain? I am craving to know more about him after his appearance here. He can’t just not have a story after this one. Believe me, when you read When You’re Back—probably 80%—you’ll be agreeing with me.
